Depending on what digital camera you are using, the colors of the pictures will be slightly different. In many cases, the differences are not noticeable, but for a trained eye, they can be disturbing. If your digital camera can not produce satisfying colors, you can always edit the pictures. MagicColors lets you adjust the colors in a picture for a more realistic look. It eliminates the need to go through complex options, allowing you to work much faster.

There is no setup process to go through before using the software. You can extract its files from a 4.36 Mb archive which you need to download. It supports many image formats, and you can run it on most Windows versions.

Most of the editing tasks can be done by using a series of sliders, found on the upper half of the interface. An image is loaded with the Open option, in the Image menu, and it will be displayed in the lower left area of the window. There are two methods to adjust the colors: grid or regional mapping. Both methods involve sliders and you can switch from one to another with the buttons placed beneath these sliders.

After loading an image, you may click the Start button in the upper right area of the window. The software will process the image and it will display the result next to the original. Even if the settings are set to default, the result will have better colors and contrast. If you are not satisfied, you can move the sliders to adjust the contrast limit, high and low shift and cell width.

The second method will work with entire regions of the image, instead of cells. With the aid of the sliders, you can set up to 10 regions, which the software will detect automatically and set different levels for high or low shift and distance. When working with the second method, two buttons will be made available beneath the sliders. Besides the same kind of options, they will display others which can be used to draw a mask over an image or select and edit a certain region.

MagicColors can also batch edit images. The options can be brought up on the same area as the sliders and they involve selecting a source and output path and selecting one of the methods. Individual images can be saved in JPEG, TIFF, PNG or BMP format, with an option from the Image menu.

Pros

Editing the images can be done with basic tools and the results will look much better than the originals, even if you leave the settings on default. The software only needs to be extracted from an archive, after which it can be launched right away, without making any additional settings.

Cons

The program's Demo version is a bit limited. After processing images with MagicColors, they will look better than ever. You only need to use basic tools and to give your pictures a more realistic look.
